Difficult access | tight spaces
The pagani rigs are only 1.2m wide, which means they can fit through narrow gaps, around the back of buildings, through gates or through areas with low height restrictions (only 1.5m high with mast down).

Our Pagani rigs weigh around 1.1 ton. This makes these rigs light enough to be easily lifted with a crane or hiab. Handy for getting over obstructions, such as walls or fences. With a large hiab truck, the rig can be lifted out by up to 25m. These rigs can also be lifted by helicopter to get to areas that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Looking for your recent project? If you’d like us to feature an article about your recent project or you have some excellent photographs of Ground Investigations people of gear in action then just get in touch and we’d be happy to oblige. In addition to the features projects we have undertaken numerous investigations for commercial and residential building developments, subdivisions, road slips, slope stabilisation projects and more.
Mostly CPT testing using our Pagani rig on difficult access sloping farmland and on intertidal mud flats. The mudflat work was accessed using a helicopter to lift the Pagani rig. Some borehole sampling work was also carried out on this scheme.
We have worked on many of the sections making up this major roading project, including Ngaruawahia Bypass, Huntley Bypass and the Hamilton and Te Rapa sections of the Expressway. CPT and SDMT tests were carried out as well as verification testing for DSM ground improvement works
Most of our work on this project was along the approach roads and portal areas of the tunnel. Work included CPTs, SDMTs and Terrier borehole sampling. Some SDMT tests were performed through boreholes pre-drilled through basalt rock to test the soils immediately beneath using the ‘torpedo’ method of connecting the SDMT equipment to the rods of the rotary drill rig.
We have carried out many CPT and SDMT tests along this project as well as along the associated northwestern upgrade projects from St. Lukes through to Westgate. Many tests were carried out using our Pagani rig craned on to the intertidal mud flats.
